ICD-10, who’s ready? You are.
They say, “The third time’s the charm” and it looks like that will apply to the ICD-10 deadline.
Not only are there more ICD-10 codes than ICD-9 codes, (about 68,000 compared to 16,000), but the structure of the codes themselves will change. There will be more characters for ICD-10 codes to add greater detail and specificity, such as laterality, severity, and other clinical details. Intended to provide more information and allow for coding of new conditions, the code set will, nonetheless, challenge providers, clinicians, and office staff as they try to fit this steep learning curve into daily patient care and operations.
In this edition our guest author, Valerie Rinkle, an Agility Advisory Board member known for her expertise in CMS reimbursement and Outpatient Prospective Payment Systems (OPPS), will focus on what you can do now for a successful transition to ICD-10. Check out her impressive bio at the end of her article. We’re pleased to offer insider access to, and insight from, a resource of this caliber.
