After the recent congressional recess patients and providers have found themselves in an awkward developmental situation. Congress didn’t address the Medicare therapy cap in a purposeful way, and this inaction has caused distress from the APTA community. The recent bipartisan decision to permanently end the therapy hard cap. On January 1st, the hard cap of $2,010 for physical therapy and speech-language pathology services was instituted, and the exceptions that permit services beyond that value (through use of the KX modifier) no longer apply.
