Make an Action List for Your PT Practice

Like most businesses in the United States, we can all be guilty of sometimes doing too much of any given thing. That’s right. We can be overachievers. We work day in and day out, and we don’t like saying “no” to others. Along with doing too much, sometimes we fail to prioritize what we need to. By pushing ourselves to the very max, it can be easy to get off track and not even realize it.

But there is one thing we can do that can help us along the way, and that is creating an action list. An action list can make it easier to stay focused and committed and re-prioritize what makes most sense for you and your business.

When making an action list for your physical therapy practice, consider the following:

Use Your PT Practice Action List Every Day

Whether you’re revising an old list or writing a new one, make sure to note actionable items that you can complete and sign off on that day. For example, an action item may be “Return Mr. Johnson’s phone call” or “Review documentation for all patients seen today.” If you are working on a big project, write down an actionable item of said project you can complete that day.

Prioritize Your Action List

At the very top of your list, write down the items that are of the utmost priority or ones you know you can achieve that day. That’s because once you see that you are making progress on your list throughout the day, you will then feel encouraged to scratch off more items as you go. Start off with the small actionable items you can do now, then gradually make your way to checking off the bigger items.

Check off Items as They Are Completed

Now, if I’m honest, I love anything that has to do with technology, but I’m old-fashioned in the sense that I still like to have my own paper lists nearby. Why? Because I like the instant satisfaction that I get marking off an item I’ve accomplished. I understand, however, if you prefer to keep track of your action lists in digital form. Just make sure to mark it off as you go. You’ll instantly feel great about it when you do.

Carry Your List Over To the Next Day

If you don’t get all of your actionable items done in one day, that’s okay. Simply move it to the following day of your to-do tasks. This will help you not lose sight of important items you need to get to and other matters you may need to take care of.

Take a few minutes out of your everyday schedule to create an actionable workflow around your important to-do items. See how accomplished and productive you feel at the end of the day. Give it a shot and let me know how it goes!
