Study: CMS Should Pay Closer Attention to Chronic Wounds

Clinics specialized in chronic wound care are becoming increasingly important. Medicare claims referring wound treatment are also continuing to grow. Researchers are suggesting that more steps be taken to look into wound care management and the associated costs.

According to the article “In 2014, approximately 14.5% of Medicare beneficiaries were diagnosed with at least 1 type of wound or wound infection—that’s about 8.2 million patients.” The article went on to make a mid-range estimate on what Medicare could’ve shelled out on wound care that year – $31.7 billion.
