{Straight talk for clients}
This month we’re talking about your facility’s appointments. Specifically, tactics to mitigate missed visits. The benefits are two-fold: 1) patients that adhere to their plan of care are more likely to have optimal outcomes; and 2) revenue recouped by stemming the tide of missed visits will impact your bottom line. In fact, you could see a significant increase in revenue if you’re an HBO facility. Read on to see how a simple solution integrated with WoundExpert can help.
January 2016
Dear WoundExpert,
Despite providing top-notch care, we have patients that cancel or miss appointments. This impacts our ability to effectively continue treatment of those patients, disrupts our daily workflow, and has a negative financial impact on our business. What is the best way to remind patients about upcoming appointments?
The Scenario
Your facility is losing time.
- You may have a staff member calling every patient scheduled for appointments each business day. What if you can’t reach the patient? You need to call back!
- Assume this effort takes one hour per day—you’re spending up to 20 hours per month manually contacting patients to remind them of scheduled visits.
You’re facility is also losing money.
- Each missed wound care visit is a loss of $225.55 in reimbursement. Assuming an average number of 18 missed visits per month, annual revenue loss is estimated to be $48,719.
- If you also provide HBO treatments, each missed HBO visit is a loss of $430.84 in reimbursement. Also assuming 18 missed visits per month, annual revenue loss associated with missed HBO visits is estimated to be $93,061!
The Solution
The WoundExpert team integrated an automated appointment reminder system. Highlights include:
- Scheduling information is automatically extracted from WoundExpert
- You determine what information is relayed in the message, and if it is your voice or text-to-speech
- You determine the best communication method (phone call, email message, or text)
- It tracks unanswered calls and tries back later
- An online portal provides reporting
And, yes, it is secure and HIPAA compliant.
