Diversity in the workplace is an on-going issue but it’s an issue with solutions. To build diversity, it takes forward-thinking initiatives, a reexamination of the hiring philosophy, and the support of the company’s decision-makers. When it comes to marketing your clinic, are you using WoundExpert to its fullest? Focus your marketing efforts where they can make the most impact and understand what’s working and what’s not in your current promotional efforts. Use these five tips to learn how WoundExpert can help you understand your current trends and develop strategic initiatives.
March 2018
Dear WoundExpert,
As the director of my wound care department, I’m constantly focused on growing our referral base as well as understanding our current trends based on incoming referrals and marketing initiatives. We work hard at promoting our wound care center but, at times, have a tough time developing targeted marketing/community engagement initiatives based on real data or trends. Are there any supporting resources or features in WoundExpert that can help us understand where our patients are coming from, or more importantly, where we are lagging as it relates to referrals, marketing, and patient populations?
The Strategy
When it comes to growth strategies, it is important to start out tactically. Many times, a director is tasked with building up active patient admissions. In order to do so, you must first understand where current admissions are coming from, and in some cases, where they aren’t coming from. Once this is understood, purposeful marketing and referral initiatives can be built based on specific clinic data trends and patterns.
Here are some WoundExpert reports that can help you build a strategic marketing initiative specific to your wound care facility:
Strategize and Diversify. With the Referring Physician by Wound Type report, you can compile and summarize the number of patients a physician has referred to your facility based on Wound Type—a valuable resource to help you strategize where you are strongest and where you have room for expansion. Put this data to good use by hosting a community engagement event or symposium on a specific Wound Type and easily target physicians appropriately for that wound category based on this report.
Location, Location, Location. The Zip Code report will compile and summarize the number of patients admitted from each zip code. You may be tasked with a strategic initiative of growing your patient population, and this report can help track your progress. By identifying pocketed areas by zip code, you can easily identify zones that are providing a steady stream of patient admissions as well as strategize marketing initiatives to geographic areas where referrals or patient admissions are lacking.
“What’s up Doc?” By utilizing the Referring Physician report, you can produce a list of referring physicians who were associated with patient admissions to the facility. Perhaps you have a goal of obtaining “x” amount of new referring physicians per month and want to deliver marketing material to each new physician; this report allows you to quickly filter first time referring physicians based on a specific time frame. Conversely, you may want to re-engage with physicians who have not referred recently. This report will allow you to see the last incidence of referral based on a specific date range or “x” number of months depending on your preference.
There’s No “I” in Team. At times, wound care is a team sport and may need the assistance of other diagnostic departments or service lines. Does your wound care team do a fantastic job in supporting ancillary services in your wound care department and beyond? Why not track this data and report out the ancillary services to show other facility revenue that your wound care team has generated? The Ancillary Services report can filter by:
All—All ancillary service items for relevant claims within the reporting period
In House—Only Services/Tests performed within the clinic
Referred Away—Only Services/Tests that had the ‘Referred Away’ checkbox selected on the Physician Orders document
Reporting on what your wound care facility generates to support other departments or service lines shows the additional value you provide and can be a form of marketing that inadvertently builds patient admissions.
Did You Hear? The How Heard report can help your facility measure the effectiveness of promotional or marketing efforts set forth by your facility. If the How Heard field is populated in WoundExpert, twenty-five various categories can be identified (contact Client Services to customize the list!) to see which modality is supporting the facility’s promotional efforts. The categories range from billboards to brochures, television to word-of-mouth, and many more.
