The Patient-Driven Payment Model (PDPM) is the proposed Medicare payment rule for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). While PDPM has replaced RCS-1, the essence of the payment model is the same: PDPM eliminates payment based on services delivered in favor of resident classifications and anticipated resource needs during the course of a patient’s stay. PDPM includes important revisions and clarifications from RCS-1, but it could appropriately be named RCS-1.1.
