Leaders understand the potential of advanced analytics, but few have adopted.

PITTSBURGH, February 27, 2024 — Net Health, a trusted source for specialized software solutions that empower restorative care providers across the continuum of care, today announced findings from a new study in collaboration with HIMSS Market Insights titled: “What’s Delaying Advanced Analytics Adoption in Healthcare?” The study’s key findings show that few healthcare organizations have implemented advanced analytics enterprise-wide, despite strong awareness of data-driven approaches and their potential to enhance experiences for patients and providers.

Researchers surveyed 53 U.S. healthcare decision-makers and influencers about their plans for leveraging advanced analytics solutions that incorporate predictive modeling, machine learning, data mining, and automation for deeper insights beyond those provided by basic analytics tools at their organizations. The results indicate a widespread understanding amongst respondents regarding the capacity of these solutions to drive clinical and operational efficiency, improve consumer expectations, and develop stronger long-term patient relationships.

“Most providers entered the field to care for patients, not to spend a majority of their days doing tasks like administration and documentation,” says Kevin Keenahan, Chief Product Officer at Net Health. “Luckily, data and analytics have emerged as catalysts propelling the healthcare industry into a new era of clinical precision and operational efficiency. This HIMSS Market Insights study underscores how health system leaders understand the power of these solutions, but there is still work to be done in adopting the technology to glean actionable insights and remove the administrative burden from clinicians.”

Despite knowledge among healthcare leadership of the positive impact advanced analytics technology can have on their organizations, the study reveals a gap between awareness and full-scale implementation. Few organizations currently use these solutions enterprise-wide. However, a staggering 87% of respondents are in some stage of implementation, signaling a growing interest and commitment within the industry.

Other key findings from the report include:

  • Advanced Analytics Solutions are Important in Healthcare: Four in five healthcare leaders believe implementing these solutions will be highly important to their organizations in the next few years.
  • Despite Their Importance, Adoption of New Solutions is Slow: Only 6% of respondents say they had fully adopted and integrated these solutions.
  • There is Room for Advanced Analytics to Grow: Approximately 80% of respondents are interested in advanced analytics’ potential to help their organizations remain competitive and to keep patients actively participating in their own care plans.
  • Advanced Analytics Are Valuable Tools: About 9 in 10 healthcare leaders say advanced analytics solutions are highly valuable for enhancing operational efficiencies and resource allocation and preventing events that lead to penalties and/or lower reimbursements.

“One of the areas where the benefits of data and analytics solutions may be the most tangible is in the industry’s transition from fee-for-service to value-based care,” said Nicole Ramage, Sr. Market Insight Manager at HIMSS. “Amid payer changes and declining reimbursements, providers must remain vigilant about documentation, and they need to implement tools that will help them streamline that process while ensuring proper patient care. This data shows that there is still a need for broader adoption among organizations that want to remain competitive in a crowded landscape.”
