Step #2 to Recruit for Your PT Practice: Assemble Your Team

Part of the recruitment process requires you to consider the group of people you want to have in your team. It’s valuable to spend some time thinking about the characteristics and traits that are important to you in those you hire. There are two things we encourage you to ponder further on as you begin the hiring process.

Put Yourself in the Patient’s Shoes

Think about how your staff members interact with patients. Are they gentle and delicate? Do they push too hard? Do they exude confidence in their engagement and communication? How do they approach different patients with varying concerns and treatment plans? One of the best ways to understand the experience your staff provides to patients is to be one yourself.

When onboarding new staff or evaluating the team you currently have in place, allow yourself to be the patient for a little bit. Experience their knowledge, customer service and techniques first-hand. By stepping into their shoes, you’ll have a better understanding of what you also need from your staff.

Recruit on a Consistent Basis

Naturally, your pool of applicants will be smaller when only recruiting during a specific time period, say only when a job position is available. Unfortunately, this can limit your pool of applicants for that time period. Broadening your search to find solid staff members at any time can help you identify the best talent available – whenever they are available.

Whether it is now or in the future, you can keep this momentum going by listing job postings and requesting resume submissions through your website. Performed correctly, the recruitment and subsequent interview process becomes a two-way identification of the perfect match between candidates and your practice. Once a perfect match is made, both parties can then negotiate the terms of the employment agreement to ensure they are on the same page.

As you are assembling and building your team, make sure to expand your horizons and to think outside the box.  In turn, this will help you put together a team that inspires, helps and serves others to the best of their abilities.
