MedEvolve, Inc., Salar, Inc., and Net Health embed ICD Sherpa technology from VitalWare for ICD-10 content
VitalWare™, the leader in business intelligence for ICD-10 and beyond, today announced their partnerships with MedEvolve, LLC., Salar, Inc. and Net Health to give their clients access to the innovative documentation, terminology and coding solution, ICD Sherpa™. Because ICD-10 brings more codes, new terminology and additional specificity requirements, ICD Sherpa was developed to quickly guide physicians to complete, accurate documentation, making ICD-10 a non-event.
The ICD-10 code set is organized much differently and combines terms and 5,042 new concepts not found in ICD-9. Guiding users through the specificity requirements of ICD-10, ICD Sherpa goes beyond standard text searches by providing necessary concept search methodologies including: terms, aliases, medical conditions, fuzzy matching, abbreviations and acronyms.
EHR and other vendors have addressed ICD-10 in one of three ways, inserting the code set into their application and providing the ability to search on terms; creating their own methodology combining key words with the GEMS crosswalk; or, by selecting a medical terminology tool built on ICD-9. The complexity of ICD-10 however, requires more than a simple code look-up or a product designed using ICD-9 terminology. A solution must assist the physician with capturing the appropriate documentation concepts needed to accurately code a claim. The CDI team is tasked with determining what is missing, and the coding team must code from the documentation without losing productivity, while generating an accurate bill for reimbursement. Both vendors and providers who deeply understand the ICD-10 terminology challenges are switching to VitalWare’s ICD Sherpa.
“With the complexities of ICD-10, MedEvolve was searching for a partner that could exceed the needs of our clients,” remarked Mike Schiller, President and CEO, MedEvolve. “ICD Sherpa’s ability to assist with documentation and code assignment made VitalWare the obvious choice.”
“We were looking for a vendor that understood the complexities of ICD-10 and approached the problem from a user perspective, not just a data perspective. VitalWare does both,” said Dan Schiller, President of Salar. “Their tools have strengthened our mission to provide a powerfully intuitive documentation platform in TeamNotes that is ready to tackle ICD-10 through more accurate coding and documentation improvement.”
Christopher F. Hayes, Net Health’s Chief Technology Officer, says “VitalWare’s search functionality is perfectly fitted to serve customer needs across our solutions. Our clients are leaders in specialized outpatient care and will be well served by the increased level of specificity seen in ICD-10. With approximately 68,000 codes, the real imperative was to choose a solution to help them quickly identify the information they need. We’re planning to make the ICD-10 transition seamless to our clients.”
“As healthcare providers gear up for the stressful transition to ICD-10, we are excited to partner with MedEvolve, Inc., Salar, Inc. and Net Health,” said Kerry Martin, CEO and President of VitalWare. “Having partners align with VitalWare in recognition of the need for a technology that addresses ICD-10 granularity validates the more than four years invested on the development of ICD Sherpa. Delivering unparalleled searching and concept organization that provides guidance to physicians, coders and other organizational staff responsible for documentation, coding and billing is our number one goal with ICD Sherpa” continued Martin.
