Simple Yet Effective Tip #8 for Your Private Practice: Set Daily Focuses and Priorities

Over the past several weeks, I have gone over a few suggestions that I believe can prove to be effective for your private practice and help it to thrive. As we wrap up this blog series, there is one more thing I’d like to talk about: the importance of setting priorities for your business.

With everyday work schedules that can be full and demanding, it’s not surprising if, from one day to the next, there are challenges both foreign and familiar. From marketing to finance, operations to recruiting and more, the demands on those running the business are great, and they don’t trickle in one-by-one.

Challenges rear their head when least expected, and opportunities fall into our laps even when we don’t have the time necessary to devote fully to them.  All the while, the day-to-day operations of the business must take priority in order to progress.

A Focus A Day: What’s It All About?

For those that relate to the above, the discipline of focus – while critical – is sometimes not enough. However, setting a focus a day can be the winning ingredient that helps you and your staff members stay on track. If you’re considering implementing a focus a day to your schedule, here’s an example of what it can look like:

Monday: Team / Operations
Tuesday: Marketing / Sales
Wednesday: Finance
Thursday: Human Resources
Friday: Process Improvement
Weekends: Writing / Creative Work

As you can tell above, each day has a general focus – or theme – when following this practice, and it allows for a natural cycle of focus throughout the week.

The Benefits of Daily Focuses and Priorities

Why is it important to commit to a focus a day, you ask? Here, let me explain.

First, you’re assured that no major area of your business will go a full week without your attention.  If you’ve ever gone two or more weeks without documenting a new process or pursuing a referral source, you’ll know what I’m talking about.

Second, you relax a bit, knowing you don’t need to make time for every area of your business on every day of the week.

Whether you work as little as three, or more than five days a week, providing a focus a day will help you stay atop your greatest challenges and responsibilities each week.  You may find it to be the one ingredient which brings your existing focus into far better alignment.

That about covers it for this series. I hope you’ve been able to gain nuggets of wisdom, as well as quick and easy tips that will help make your private practice better all around.
